Apple's Oct 28 Event: First Touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro

Apple announced a 'Pro and Tell' event for October 28 in Los Angeles, where it is expected to unveil its first touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro and iPad mini.

Apple has announced a new product event for Wednesday, October 28, 2026, and it could mark one of the biggest Mac redesigns in years. The invite, sent to press with the tagline "Pro and tell," points to a hands-on experience in Los Angeles - and the headline act is expected to be Apple's first-ever touchscreen MacBook Pro.

What Apple announced

Apple sent media invitations on Monday, October 19, for an all-day "Apple Experience" event in Los Angeles on October 28 at 10 a.m. PT. The tagline "Pro and tell" strongly suggests the rumored touchscreen MacBook models will keep the MacBook Pro name rather than launch as a new "MacBook Ultra" line. Unlike a traditional keynote, there will be no live presentation - journalists will get hands-on time with the new products instead. This is Apple's second event of the month, following the October 13 "Welcome home" showcase in New York City, where it debuted the HomeView smart display, the HomePod mini 2, and a refreshed Apple TV 4K.

The touchscreen MacBook Pro

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple will unveil completely redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with bright OLED displays, bringing direct touch controls to macOS hardware for the very first time. The new laptops are expected to run Apple's M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, feature the Dynamic Island cutout in place of the notch, and have a noticeably lighter frame thanks to rearranged internals. Apple has reportedly upgraded the hardware to make the laptop more comfortable to hold on the lap, and the design may be significantly thinner than the current generation.

What else to expect

The iPad mini is also getting a heavy refresh: a vibrant OLED screen, an upgraded speaker system, and a relocated FaceTime camera on the landscape edge for more natural video calls. Apple is also expected to update the iMac and the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with the new M6 chip, though those models are expected to look like their current versions. No prices have been announced.

Why it matters

Apple has resisted touchscreens on the Mac for decades, so adding touch would be a major shift in its design philosophy. If the October 28 lineup delivers OLED, touch, and lighter bodies together, it could reset what buyers expect from high-end laptops - and pressure rivals like Microsoft and Lenovo, whose flagship laptops have had touchscreens for years.
