Google Cloud introduces a Gemini agent for work

Google Cloud says its Gemini agent can connect to business systems, use tools, and complete work inside familiar apps.

Published by Histic on 13 October 2026. At Gemini at Work on 8 October, Google Cloud announced a Gemini agent positioned as a single starting point for a range of business tasks. Its pitch combines organizational context, connected tools, and governance in one experience.

The announcement

Google says the agent can plan work, select tools and models, connect to customer business systems, and return finished results in documents, inboxes, and developer environments. The company also highlights cost controls and enterprise administration. Those are product claims from the launch; actual capabilities depend on configuration and availability.

The bigger change

Enterprise AI is moving beyond a question box that summarizes documents. An agent that can act across systems raises more useful possibilities, but it also increases the importance of permissions and review. A connected system must know what it is allowed to read, what it may change, and who is accountable for the result.

A practical adoption test

Before rolling out an agent, choose one bounded workflow with a clear owner. Measure the quality of completed work, time spent checking it, and the number of corrections required. Check how the agent handles sensitive data and failures. A fluent demonstration is a starting point; dependable operations require evidence from real tasks.
