Grand Theft Auto 6 is still about a month away from launch, but it is already selling like a record-breaker. New estimates say the game has pulled in about $630 million from 6.45 million digital pre-orders before its November 19 release date.
What the numbers say
The figures come from Sensor Tower's GTA VI Sales Tracker, updated around October 20. The analytics firm estimates that 6.45 million digital copies of the game have been pre-ordered on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, adding up to roughly $630 million in consumer spending. These are estimates, not official sales numbers. Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two have not confirmed the figures, and the tracker counts digital purchases only. Physical copies are not included, so the real pre-order total is likely higher.
PlayStation leads the way
Sony's console is carrying most of the demand. PlayStation 5 accounts for about 74 percent of the pre-orders: 4.8 million copies worth an estimated $468 million. Xbox Series X|S holds the remaining 26 percent, with 1.66 million copies worth about $162 million. That gap lines up with Rockstar's marketing deal with Sony, whose PlayStation branding appeared on the game's launch trailer. Sensor Tower also reports that US digital pre-orders are running 148 percent ahead of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 at the same point before its release, and that the vast majority of buyers have chosen the $100 Ultimate Edition.
What happens next
GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-loading opens a week earlier on November 12, which is when analysts expect the biggest sales jump. Rockstar has still not announced a PC release date. If early demand is any sign, the game could rank among the biggest entertainment launches ever. Some analysts project it could earn between $3.25 billion and $5.2 billion in its first week on the market.
