Legora Raises $550M at $8.8B to Expand Legal AI
Legora raised $550M at an $8.8B valuation in a Series E round led by Atreides Management to expand its agentic legal AI platform across global markets.
Swedish legal AI startup Legora has raised $550 million in a Series E funding round that values the company at $8.8 billion, the company announced on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. The round was led by Boston-based investment firm Atreides Management, with new investors including Baron Capital, Capital Group, Fidelity Management and Research Company, Glade Brook Capital Partners and J.P. Morgan. Every major existing investor - including Accel, Benchmark, Bessemer Venture Partners, General Catalyst, ICONIQ, Insight Venture Partners, Redpoint Ventures, Salesforce Ventures and Sands Capital - also took part.
A new round for agentic legal AI
Legora says the fresh capital will be used to grow its business in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, and to invest further in its agentic capabilities. The company describes its product as an agentic operating system - Legora aOS - where lawyers work alongside AI agents that can carry out multi-step tasks on their own. Legora's tools help lawyers research, review and draft legal documents. The company says legal teams are moving beyond simple AI assistants toward agents that can handle longer, more complex work. "The opportunity in legal is enormous and we are still early," said Max Junestrand, CEO and co-founder of Legora. "AI is changing the role of the lawyer, with more time for judgment and advice, and it is reshaping how law firms and in-house legal teams are organized and how their work gets done."
The US is now its biggest market
Legora said the United States is now its largest market by revenue. The company opened its first US office in New York in March 2025 and has since added offices in Denver, Chicago, Houston and San Francisco, plus locations in Toronto and Mexico City. The Stockholm-based company now has more than 1,000 employees and serves more than 2,400 law firms and in-house legal teams in over 80 markets, according to the company. Annual recurring revenue has grown past $200 million - the company says it went from $1 million to $100 million in less than 18 months, then added the next $100 million in under six months. In-house legal teams are a growing share of the business. Legora says they made up only a small fraction of its customer base a year ago, but accounted for more than 40 percent of new customers in the third quarter.
A red-hot legal AI race
The round lands as investors pour money into legal AI. Legora's main US rival, San Francisco-based Harvey, raised $550 million in September at a $15.5 billion valuation, Reuters reported. Large law firms and corporate legal departments are adopting the technology to speed up legal work and streamline their operations, even as many big firms also build their own tools in-house. With $550 million more in the bank, Legora says it intends to lead the shift toward AI agents in legal work - both in the US and globally.
